About the Island
Though St. Croix is just 84 square miles, each part of the island has a distinctive feel. The West End is the wider part of the island offering vast open spaces. The gentle rainshowers make it a lush environment. The North Shore has the highest point, Mount Eagle, which rises 1,165 feet above sea level. Many of the views of the north shore provide dramatic perspectives of the shoreline and beyond. The East End is home to many distinguished properties. Beautiful architecture and spectacular views of Buck Island abound the East End. The only casino in the Virgin Islands, Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino, is on the south side. The South Shore of the island has the largest merchant oil refinery in the western hemisphere, Hovensa. Nearby is also the Industrial Park with light manufacturing facilities and the newly expanded Henry E. Rohlsen airport, which can accommodate international flights.
